Archibald Campbell's Company of New York Provincials Uniform Specifications
For a more versatile impression, Venturing Crew 1776 has adopted a simple approach to clothing and accouterments. Early in the American War for independence, most American militia companies and state-raised regiments often took the field in whatever clothing they had with them. Some pro-British units also took the field in civilian clothing they brought from home. These soldiers were mostly from working-class families, and linen or woolen hunting shirts or smocks, short woolen jackets, and long coats without collars or lapels were common attire among these people. All men in the period wore also wore "small clothes" that consisted of a shirt, waistcoat, breeches and stockings.
Here is a list of clothing and equipment that will be used by members of Venturing Crew 1776. Clothing items, such as shirt, breeches, smock, waistcoat, and spatterdashers can be purchased from the suppliers listed below or sewn at home. For those who wish to sew their own clothing Venturing Crew 1776 has patterns available for your use. The Recruit's Kit includes items that are required to participate in a reenactment and encampment. The Private's Kit includes items that are needed, but can be purchased later if cost is an issue. Equipment such as canteens, practice muskets, belly boxes and bayonets are owned by Venturing Crew 1776 for use by members at meetings and events.
